Introduction
Welcome to Part 2 of our Star Atlas SAGE Labs XP Guide series! In the #StarAtlas #P2E metaverse, earning XP is key to progressing. This guide focuses on DATA RUNNING XP, earned by collecting Survey Data Units (SDUs) in Galia Expanse. I earned 12,216 DATA RUNNING XP in a recent session—let’s explore how you can too, Onigiri-style!
1. What is DATA RUNNING XP in SAGE Labs?
- Overview: DATA RUNNING XP is earned by collecting Survey Data Units (SDUs) in SAGE Labs, a core activity in Galia Expanse (https://aephia.com/star-atlas/sage-labs-a-guide/).
- Example: In my gameplay on STARBASED v3.1.124, I earned 12,216 DATA RUNNING XP by sending my fleet, ONIGIRIYA1, to gather SDUs across sectors.
- Purpose: SDUs are used to progress missions and improve resource gathering efficiency, while DATA RUNNING XP contributes to your overall XP (e.g., my total of 713,628 XP).
2. How to Earn DATA RUNNING XP
2.1 Collecting Survey Data Units (SDUs)
- Basics: Send your fleet to various sectors in Galia Expanse to collect SDUs.
- Up to 25% of sectors may contain SDUs at any given time (https://support.staratlas.com).
- After collecting an SDU in a sector, that sector won’t respawn another SDU for at least 2 minutes.
- Process:
- Select your fleet (e.g., ONIGIRIYA1) in STARBASED.
- Move to a sector with SDUs (check sector details in the game to confirm SDU presence).
- Wait for the fleet to collect SDUs, earning DATA RUNNING XP over time.
- New Insight: SDUs take minimal inventory space, so a scanning-focused fleet (e.g., small ships) can collect efficiently without running out of storage.
2.2 Completing Data-Related Missions
- Missions: Some missions in SAGE Labs require collecting a specific amount of SDUs.
- Example: A mission might ask you to gather 100 SDUs in sector MRZ-20.
- Reward: Completing these missions grants additional DATA RUNNING XP on top of the XP earned during collection.
- New Insight: The Star Atlas team may adjust SDU spawn rates and locations to maintain economic balance, so check sector details frequently.
3. Strategies to Maximize DATA RUNNING XP
- Target High-SDU Sectors:
- Explore sectors with high SDU availability (e.g., MRZ-20 or MHZ-14 in the game map).
- Updated Insight: Use the game map in STARBASED to check SDU distribution in real-time. Click or hover over a sector (e.g., [-19, 9]) to view its details, which will show if SDUs are available. Since up to 25% of sectors have SDUs, move to a new sector if the current one has none (due to the 2-minute respawn rule).
- Use Multiple Fleets:
- Operate multiple fleets to collect SDUs in different sectors simultaneously.
- Example: While ONIGIRIYA1 was en route to [-13, 17], I could have sent another fleet to MRZ-12 to scan for SDUs.
- Minimize Travel Time:
- Use subwarp for nearby sectors to save time and resources (no fuel cost).
- Reserve warp for long-distance sectors to quickly reach high-SDU areas.
- Updated Insight: Plan your route by checking sector details on the map to ensure you’re moving to SDU-rich areas efficiently.
- Avoid Hostile Sectors:
- Stay away from hostile sectors (e.g., [-19, 9] marked as hostile) to prevent fleet loss.
- Updated Insight: Check the sector’s status in the map details to confirm safety before scanning. If your fleet is destroyed, respawn with ATLAS and resume SDU collection.
- Step-by-Step Guide:
- Open the STARBASED map in SAGE Labs (central grid showing sectors like [-19, 9], MRZ-20).
- Click or hover over a sector to view its details (e.g., SDU availability, hostile status).
- If SDUs are present, send your fleet to that sector and start collecting.
- If no SDUs are available, move to another sector and repeat the process.
- Use the “Scan” action (available in the fleet panel) to confirm SDU presence after arriving at a sector.
- Tip: SDU distribution changes dynamically, so check the map frequently to find new SDU-rich sectors.
4. Onigiri’s Tips
- Efficient Collection: Use STARBASED’s map to find SDU-rich sectors. Collect while enjoying an onigiri snack!
- Stay Safe: Avoid hostile sectors like [-19, 9] to keep your fleet intact.
- For Beginners: Start with nearby sectors using subwarp to earn DATA RUNNING XP safely.
6. Conclusion
Earning DATA RUNNING XP in Star Atlas SAGE Labs is all about strategic SDU collection in Galia Expanse. Stay tuned for Part 3, where we’ll cover MINING XP! Have questions? Reach out on X at
